Message Question here, I sent off a handful of items to be powdercoated. Among them was my rear calipers. I removed the dust seals, retaining clips, and the o-rings inside the cylinders. I had never done this before so I consulted my FSM. It said specifically NOT to remove the bolts holding the two halves together. So I didn't.

Now the powdercoater informs me that there is an additional o-ring inside the caliper that needs to come out prior to powdercoating and the calipers must come apart just as the FSM says not to do.

I have tracked this car pretty damn hard and braked these OEM brakes to heavy fading temp levels. So I am thinking they should be fine to leave together. Am I wrong here?

He tells me he has done this on his own calipers with no issue but if his car has not seen any track time then it wouldnt really be an apples/apples comparison as his calipers will never see the temps that mine do. But his position is they need to come apart and have the o-ring removed for powdercoating, and then re-use that o-ring (he says they are NLA from Nissan). I don't like this idea. Advice?
